I’m Shub: Counsellor and arts therapy practitioner in Singapore
I've been through the corporate grind, the motherhood guilt treadmill and the exciting but scary uncertainty of starting over, more than once.
My name is Shubhashree Sangameswaran, Shub for short. I offer gentle, experiential therapy for adults feeling anxiety and overwhelm around life changes. Eight years ago, my own mental health journey began in a new city, when I was trying settle in, and also be the perfect Mum to my toddler, while also trying to build a brand new career.
I didn’t know that I was trying too hard, doing too much, until my body began to send me signs. Chronic pain, tight shoulders, and no answers from doctors. It took me a while to realise the problem wasn't with my body. Therapy was hard, messy and beautiful, and it changed everything for me.
It's also why I do what I do.
As a trauma-informed counsellor and certified Expressive Arts Therapy Practitioner, I bring both lived experience and professional training to this work. I want to support individuals who are often navigating tricky transitions, and feeling stuck, anxious or overwhlemed.

“My experience with Shub changed everything I believed about counselling and art.”
I’m a 30 year old man who hadn’t drawn anything in my adult life, and I’d gladly say this was a wonderful experience which helped me so much with my issues.
Sometimes we surprise ourselves with how we articulate our thoughts though a medium other than words….6 months on I still keep my own drawings as a reminder that sometimes words fail me, but the experience won’t.

“Gently unpacked long-held fears & experiences, offering clarity & calm when things felt uncertain.”
Shub helped me gently unpack some long-held fears and past experiences, offering clarity and calm when things felt uncertain. It has been a meaningful experience, I felt very seen and heard in her compassionate presence.
I am deeply grateful for the safe space she held for me during a difficult, transformative period in my life.

I've been working with Shub, seeking therapy for anxiety, self-criticism, and some unhealthy emotional patterns. Over this time, my relationship with myself has significantly changed for the better.

My approach
Your symptoms aren't just things to be healed, they hold deep wisdom about something that isn't right. I'm curious about your experience beyond the labels.
So when you tell me about your anxiety, I won't start with theory or assumptions. I'll start with you. Your experience matters above all, and we will start with what it actually feels like in your body, your mind, and in your life.
Together we'll explore it through conversation, art processes or somatic work, and find out what's really underneath. I work in a way that is person-centred, trauma-informed and a little different from conventional talk therapy.
A little bit more about me
When I'm not in sessions, you'll find me making art, walking in nature, reading, and being a mum to my daughter and the most handsome black cat.
I like to say that I took the scenic route to where I am today. I trained as an engineer, spent a decade in corporate IT, and then, as a new mum juggling a full-time job, did a 100-day art project on a whim. It cracked something open. I kept drawing, eventually became a freelance illustrator, a published author, and started running art journalling workshops.
It was in those workshops that I discovered something I hadn't expected: my favourite parts were when people shared at the end of the sessions. It was a space where people opened up, became vulnerable, and it turned out that I really enjoyed witnessing them and holding that space. That's what sent me back to study — and eventually led me here.
I've been a trailing spouse, a recovering good girl, and a highly sensitive person. Which means I notice a lot, feel things deeply, and have learned the hard way that rest is not a reward.
I'm based in Singapore and work with clients in person and online.
